Valorie Perkins Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund

9/25/11

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Nancy J. & Nikki C. for winning these splendid pieces at our September meeting!  Thanks to all for their generosity to this effort.

Fall Offerings

We are very excited to announce our next Scholarship drawing offerings.  Two fully stitched AND finished pieces have been donated by our extraordinary chapter member, Linda D.

The first piece is a wonderful Black Cat on a Pumpkin Sampler fashioned into a lovely box.  Many clever stitches and specialty fibers are included into this design.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

For those who purchase tickets for this drawing there is a second chance!  If your ticket is not drawn for the Black Cat Pumpkin Sampler, we have a door ornament that will be a second drawing the same evening.

The fanciful background fabrics used on these pieces are beyond amazing!  Both pieces will be perfect for your Halloween decorating.  A huge THANKS to Linda for these fabulous contributions!

FINE Print:  Tickets for these items will be sold at the next two General meetings and are $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00.  You do not need to be present for the drawing on September 12, 2011 to be eligible. If the winner is not present the ticket number will be published in the next newsletter. To claim your piece you will simply call or e-mail Denise K. to make arrangements. 100% of the proceeds from this fund go to a Seminar Scholarship for one of our chapter members.  The drawing for the Scholarship award will be held prior to the Region Seminar 2012, A Touch of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.

Valorie Perkins Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund

Our next offering for the Scholarship Fund is a double whammy!  We are reminded that this fund is named for and now supplied by our original Chapter President.  Valorie’s passion was to focus on the education of all of us in the many techniques of the Needle Arts.

First we have Trio of Violets – A 3” Pin Cushion Box Kit.  This lovely round wooden box has a lid designed for displaying a pincushion made with the counted cross stitch of a dainty cluster of violets.  This unopened kit is from Count Your Blessings of Bandon, Oregon and contains chart, threads, fabric, stitch chart and padding for  the pin cushion top.   Someone said the box is a very special type of wood!

Second we have a very tiny gem called Classic Santa.  This complete kit, from Kreinik, is a Donna Giampa / Vermillion Stitchery design. The silk gauze kit includes a 2” piece of 40 count silk ground fabric mounted on mat board, silk threads, Kreinik blending filament, needle & instructions.

We are “enhancing” this kit with a round porcelain “box” that Classic Santa will be stunning in.

Tickets for these items will be sold at the next three General meetings and are $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00.  You may buy tickets for one or both items, they are being offered separately.  You do not need to be present for the drawing on July 11, 2011 to be eligible.

We will gratefully accept contributions from members of other EGA chapters or members at large.  If you wish to participate, please e-mail us at hbat.ega@g-mail.com with the Subject:  VPR Scholarship Fund.  100% of the proceeds from this fund go to a Seminar Scholarship for one of our chapter members.  The drawing for the Scholarship award will be held prior to the Region Seminar 2012, A Touch of Glass in Tacoma, Washington.

Lacy Canvas Scissors Case

Don’t throw away your copies of the old Petite Projects – they are timeless!

Our chapter is almost seven years young so we didn’t get a chance to stitch some beautiful projects when they first came out. There is one from 2000 – a Lacy Canvas Scissor Case designed by Margaret Bendig. It not only got us all stitching “more than one” as gifts for friends and family but it also brought us new members who saw our partially done pieces and said – I want to do that too!

We did it in two sessions – first the teaching of the stitches in February and two months later the assembly and edging.  Thank you Linda D. for being such a detailed teacher. Here are just a few finished ones….

Petite Project for November 2010

Our chapter had a fun time stitching this ladybug at our November meeting. Once we got the rhythm for the plaid going - we didn't have to count at all. Many of them showed up just one month later on the sharing table - COMPLETED! Now that's the kind of project we all like.

February Newsletter is Available

Our chapter newsletter for February is available.  The link can be found on the sidebar of this blog.  Checkout the message from our new President, Joyce Card.  A few positive changes are in store!  Another fascinating article about the history of embroidery was submitted by Jill Baker. Our scholarship recipient, Lori Wahl, has a great write-up about the class she attended at Seminar using the scholarship money.  And there is much, much more in the newsletter.  Don't forget the pre-work for the February program "Lacy Canvas Scissors Case".  Supply list is in the newsletter. And don't forget to support our wonderful advertisers!
